Lightning bolt crochet bead
These Harry Potter lightning bolt crochet beads are so cute. But let me tell you, it took me hours to figure them out 😂 Here’s how to crochet them:
Material
- crochet hook, 2.5
- red and yellow yarn [save for babies!]
- wooden bead, 3cm in diameter
Terms:
Slst – Slip stitch
Sc – Single crochet
Inc – Increase [stitch 2 sc in 1]
Dec – Decrease [use an invisible decrease!]
The bead is fully done in single crochets. However, to make sure you get a clear image of the lightning bolt, you need to divide the single crochet into two parts: the bottom loop and the top loop. The bottom loop is the first thread that is pulled through (left most image). The top loop is then crochet in the other color (in yellow here in the center and right image).
I highlight the separation of the single crochet into bottom and top loops in the following way in the instructions: |red, yellow| or |yellow, red|. So, the first color always represents the bottom loop, the second color the top loop.
Check out the following 3 images. Here I crochet a |yellow, red| single crochet ⤵️
Row 1: Sc 7 in magic ring [close with slpst in first sc] (7 sts)
Row 2: Inc 7 times (14 sts)
Row 3: |Sc, inc| repeat 7 times (21 sts)
⚡️the next 6 rows are entirely done in single crochets⚡️
Row 5: sc 10, |red, yellow|, |yellow, red|, sc 9 (21 sts)
Row 6: sc 10, |red, yellow|, |yellow, red|, sc 9 (21 sts)
Row 7: sc 9, |red, yellow|, |yellow, yellow|, |yellow, red|, sc 9 (21 sts)
Row 8: sc 9, |red, yellow|, |yellow, red|, |yellow, red|, sc 9 (21 sts)
Row 9: sc 9, |red, yellow|, |yellow, red|, sc 10 (21 sts)
Row 10: sc 10, |yellow, red|, sc 10 (21 sts)
⚡️
Row 11: |Sc, dec| repeat 7 times (14 sts)
Insert wood bead now.
Row 12: Dec 9-10 times (2-3 sts)
tie off and close hole with needle.
Happy crocheting!
❤️💛
